Gene Haas founded Haas Automation, Inc., in 1983 to manufacture the market’s very first completely automated programmable collet indexer– a gadget used to position parts for machining with very high precision. Designed to increase production in Gene’s own machine shop, the trademarked Haas 5C collet indexer was a substantial success, and over the next four years, the company expanded its line of product to consist of a large choice of completely programmable rotary tables, rotary indexers, and device tool accessories.
